THE TREASURY OF ORNAMENT

Ornamentenschatz, after H. Dolmetsch

The Treasury of Ornament, Volume I — book cover

In 1887 a Stuttgart architect named Heinrich Dolmetsch published a book meant to sit on a workbench, not a shelf. Then the trades that used it declined, and it became what it is in most libraries today: a beautiful object nobody builds from.

This edition exists to reverse that. Every motif is modeled in three dimensions as carved relief, with a rendering of the finished piece and a machine-ready file a CNC router, laser engraver or 3D printer can produce directly. Volume I — the Renaissance — holds ten plates and seventy-nine models.

THE MODEL FILES

Every ornament in this volume is also a machine-ready file — an STL, an OBJ, a 16-bit heightmap and an SVG outline. This is the page the captions in the book point to.
